About Giving Receipts

Last updated November 1, 2026

Giving Receipts is a service of Northpine Labs LLC. It helps US churches and nonprofits turn a gift spreadsheet into year-end acknowledgment letters, one per donor. Questions about the tool or a purchase go to [email protected].

What the tool does

Start with a CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file, or paste rows from a spreadsheet. Each row needs a donor name, gift date and amount. Match the columns, add your organization's details, review the checks and letters, then download PDFs, a print file and email texts. You send the letters yourself; Giving Receipts does not send emails or file anything with the IRS.

You can check the whole file and preview every letter free. You can also download 3 letters free; those letters include a small Giving Receipts footer. A $29 season pass covers one organization's letters for tax year 2026, with re-runs through October 31, 2027. There is no subscription or account. See the terms and refund policy.

How a spreadsheet becomes a letter

The sample letter PDF uses a fictional church and donors. You can also try the sample church file in the tool without supplying your own records.

Sources behind the wording

These are the primary sources used for the explanations on this site. Source references checked November 1, 2026.

For an acknowledgment to meet the timing rule in Publication 1771, the donor must receive it on or before the earlier of the date they file their federal income tax return for the contribution year or that return's due date, including extensions. January 31 is a common sending target, not the rule that determines whether the acknowledgment is timely.

What you need to decide

These letters cover monetary gifts: cash, checks, cards and online giving. Non-cash gifts are set aside for a separate acknowledgment. The tool does not value property, verify an organization's tax status or determine whether a donor can claim a deduction. It also cannot decide whether the donor received goods or services in return for a gift.

Giving Receipts is not affiliated with the IRS and does not provide tax, legal or accounting advice. Ask a qualified adviser about your organization's circumstances.

Where the data goes

Your gift file is read and the letters are built in your browser. Work in progress is kept in this tab's session storage; organization details are saved in local storage for next time. A purchase sends Stripe your organization's name, a donor-count range and this browser's random analytics ID, along with the payment details you enter at checkout. Donor names, gift amounts and donor addresses are not sent. The privacy policy explains storage, payments and analytics in detail.
